ANZAC DAY
ANZAC DAY
This week on Anzac Day we honoured the sacrifices service men and women made for our country in all conflicts. We are reminded how blessed we are to live in a free country – a privilege we should be thankful to our veterans for all year round.
Anzac Day is a solemn time for us as a community. I paid my respects at a number of services around the Electorate and also with the school communities at Tamborine Mountain State High School and Tamborine Mountain State School. We remember not only those that have gone before us, but those men and women recently returned or are still serving around the world.
The Anzacs left a legacy that must never be forgotten. Lest We Forget.
Tamborine Mountain Water Moratorium to Continue
Residents on Tamborine Mountain need affordable water security - and, in dry times, that means local water from local sources. In late 2019 and early 2020, I requested the State Government to consider how it could improve availability of water for locals. The Council then (and now) heavily regulates new extraction operations, but the State did not regulate the water at all. The State did change that stance in a limited way by restricting new bores – and thanks to many locals who also lobbied for that change. The change doesn’t stop off-Mountain extraction, nor increase local supply - but it is better than no regulation.
I received a letter from the Minister for Water recently outlining that for now the Moratorium for Tamborine Mountain and Springbrook, which prevents the construction of new underground water works (bores) for commercial purposes, will continue without change for another 12 months when it will be reviewed again. I’ll continue to work with all levels of government to ensure Mountain locals can access Mountain water.
Tamborine Mountain Roads
Road works have started on Tamborine Mountain Road approximately 500 metres north of Songbirds Rainforest Retreat, with the road reduced to one lane to allow for slope stabilisation and drainage repair. Works are mainly between 6am-6pm, Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work required.
Roads continue to be the number one issue that gets raised with me in Scenic Rim. I’ve been lobbying for improvements on Tamborine Mountain Roads for years now – occasionally we have a win and works get done. Most of the time the $6 billion backlog of road repair and maintenance under the Queensland Labor Government makes it difficult for anything to be done.
Scenic Rim Electorate Office
You can contact me by phone, toll-free, on 1800 813 960, or email scenicrim@parliament.qld.gov.au, so I can lobby on your behalf in Brisbane. In an electorate as large as the Scenic Rim, there are lots of issues and I appreciate your feedback that helps me do my job as well as possible.
