KERRI: AN HONOUR TO FILL THE ROLE FOR DIVISION 2
KERRI: AN HONOUR TO FILL THE ROLE FOR DIVISION 2
Having been declared for Councillor for Division 2 last week, I am extremely honoured to be able to take the role. Outgoing Cr Jeff McConnell very graciously completed a handover with me, the extensiveness of the division made clear as well what the what the ‘job’ will entail - and let me say, I am very excited to get started! I am ready for it and knew I would win due to my involvement within the community for over 28 years.
During the pre-poll part of the campaign, I was very grateful for the opportunity to be able to meet and greet or catch up with so many of the residents in Division 2. As the pre-poll booths also serviced other divisions, I was able to talk to residents from outside of Division 2 which allowed further insight into the issues and concerns (as well as the good things) of the region.
On Election Day I had planned to travel from my one official voting booth in Tamborine to the five absentee voting booths in the region to meet more of the electorate, but upon arriving at the Tamborine booth, found it was completely inundated with voters in the unrelenting extensive queues, so much so that I remained there for the whole day talking to people.
I was very pleased to be able to ensure potential voters in the queue that I would advocate for issues close to their hearts including environmental and other areas of concern. I want to ensure all residents in my electorate and in the Scenic Rim region that I will be accessible for them and advocate for them. I will listen to what they think will help improve their lives while working on ways to achieve outcomes which are of benefit to all in the Scenic Rim.
I would like to thank the residents of Division 2 for placing their trust in me, and to Jeff for the handover and the legacy he has left. I am very honoured to be able to take the role as the representative for Division 2 and look forward to talking further and working with everyone as part of the team for the Scenic Rim as a whole.
An interesting ‘job interview’ indeed, but a position I will undertake to the best of my abilities. Thank you everyone for your time.
