COST OF LIVING
COST OF LIVING
The chaos and crises of the Palaszczuk Government are driving up the cost of living for all Queenslanders.
The LNP is holding the Government to account and focusing on the needs of Queensland families. We have already secured important cost-of-living wins for Queensland families by forcing the Palaszczuk Government to stop Labor’s renters’ tax, stop Labor’s patients’ tax (well, they deferred it to 2025, so if they are re-elected next year going to see your GP will be more expensive again), and reduce the cost of a learner’s licence by $100 to help young Queenslanders.
It’s harder under the Palaszczuk Government to pay your family bills.
Since 2015, under this government, water bills are up 45% (bulk water prices for SEQ Queensland households only), car rego costs are up 28%, boat rego costs are up 28%, and car licence fees are up 25%.
The Labor Government’s failure to plan and deliver are now hitting Queenslanders in the hip pocket. It is the sheer waste of money that reflects the lack of care factor the Government has for your money. The keys to the Wellcamp quarantine facility were recently given back to the family who owns it – built at a cost of $220 million to Queenslanders. It’s a facility that was barely used and we will never own. It works out to $500,000 every day of Palaszczuk Government waste in a cost-of-living crisis. It’s an amount of money equivalent to rent for an average Queensland family for 21 years. Queenslanders deserve a government that treats their money with respect. Queensland deserves better.
MAY IS SMALL BUSINESS MONTH
In May each year we celebrate our small businesses as we support them through Small Business Month. In the Scenic Rim we are lucky to have many small businesses run by passionate people. Although it is important to buy local all year round (and I encourage you to do this where possible) this month is a time for us to celebrate and support the local economy and business owners.
Local businesses need our support, not only for the jobs they provide but for the contribution that so many give back to our community through sponsorships and support for great causes. Small businesses are the engine room of the Scenic Rim Electorate, driving innovation, employment and economic progress. While times have been tough over the past few years, let’s support those that support us. When you shop locally, your money stays locally, with one dollar spent at a local business returning up to five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies.
GAMBLING COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND
Round 117 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund opened in mid-April and community organisations have until 31 May 2023 to apply for grants of up to $35,000. I have provided letters of support for numerous community groups, and together with other grant initiatives, our region has received over 18 million dollars in grant funds for community organisations since I was elected as your representative in 2012. Please contact my office for more information or to request a letter of support. You may also visit www.justice.qld.gov.au/initiatives/community-grants for further information direct from the department.
