COUNCILLOR'S COMMENTS - AMANDA HAY
COUNCILLOR'S COMMENTS - AMANDA HAY
More on the “water issue”: Canungra residents call for a moratorium on development, as the town’s only source of water dries up.
Official opening: Tamborine Mountain Library: Friday 8 December 2023. This is an invitation-only event.
Unregistered dogs: A reminder to register or renew your registration for your dog/s. The annual renewal date is 31 July. Only two dogs can be kept per property, unless an animal-keeping licence is held. All dogs over the age of three months must be registered with council, and wear an approved tag. Concessions apply for dogs owned by pensioners or current financial members of Dogs Queensland or the Greyhound Racing Authority
of Queensland.
Note: Dogs and cats are to be kept within your property at all times, or risk impounding – fees apply. Animal enclosures are required. Chaining your dog to your verandah all day is not an option. Responsible pet ownership is a requirement.
Further info: Animal Management – Scenic Rim Regional Council and at 2023-2024-register-of-fees-and-charges
(scenicrim.qld.gov.au) pages 5 & 6.
Development Applications of interest: (Source: DAP Online). MCU23/174 – Dual occupancy – 272 Main Western Rd. Tamborine Mountain Rural Precinct. Impact assessable so will be open for submissions.
Approved: MCU23/005 - Development Permit for Material Change of Use Shopping Centre (the IGA complex). New pavilion (Liquor Legends new location?), plaza/marketplace, 2 food kiosks, a dining deck and outdoor dining. Less grass.
Did you know: Roadside stalls – for info: Community Advice Templates re Scenic Rim Planning Scheme 2020 and Starting a new food business: Home-based food business – Scenic Rim Regional Council.
If you want to start a home-based business using your own domestic kitchen you should check with Council’s Planning Department to ascertain if you need an approval. SRRC factsheet on home-based business.
Examples of potentially hazardous foods include eggs, fresh cream products and cheesecakes. Check with Council re:- these products and be aware that a full list of ingredients should be attached to all jams, chutneys etc. to assist potential purchasers who may have food allergies.
Planning & Environment court appeals: no new
appeals filed, however five appeals are listed for review
in the coming weeks.
Out and About: Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards. Tamborine Mountain Community Care and Repair Café joint inaugural Christmas arts fundraising market. Morning Melodies at Ness’s Nook. Tamborine Mountain AH&I Society – AGM. Destination Scenic Rim AGM. Remembrance Day Service. Artisan Fayre. Tour of the Mountain’s sporting facilities with Cr Marshall Chalk, Portfolio holder for Sports & Recreation. 2023 Awards (primary and secondary) & Graduation Ceremony – Tamborine Mountain College
grades 6 and 12.
Congratulations to those who graduated and a shout out to the many Grade 12 students who have been offered places at universities. Good to see that so many students have completed Certificate courses concurrently with their school studies. The College has reached a milestone: enrolments have reached 500. The year in review digital photo montage was interesting. So many happy faces.
“Celtic Connections” - Munsterbucks and Lizzie Flynn & the Runaway Trains (featuring former local Hugh Curtis who plays a mean fiddle and possibly had more of his Mountain past revealed than anticipated – thanks Cath!) – played to a full house at the Zamia on Saturday night. Very talented musicians who had the floorboards bouncing from the collective foot thumping and enthusiastic dancers from
the audience.
… and if any proof was needed that Tamborine Mountain is indeed the Cultural Capital of the Scenic Rim, Barbie the Movie, attended by ladies in pink and men of a more subtle dress sense (I think they may have wandered in by accident!). Even Barbie put in an appearance and had a special seat in a front row deck chair at the Zamia Theatre.
Topics of concern raised recently: Residents deciding that Council-owned land is really an extension of their own property and doing significant unapproved “improvements” ... overgrown fire trails, damaged picnic tables, broken concrete on Gallery Walk, overly high dividing fences, unregistered/wandering dogs and potentially unapproved flashing advertising signage on a State-controlled road ... and “that” handrail.
Public Consultation: Cuppa in the Community – Tamborine Mountain Library, Wednesday 29 November 10.00-11.00am followed by community consultation from 11.00am to 1.00pm. Come along and discuss your issues.
