Animals Australia was founded in 1980. It works to protect the most vulnerable and abused animals in our society.

Its vision is a world where all animals are treated with compassion and respect and are free from cruelty – that fostering a sense of kindness for animals will reflect who we are as individuals and as a society.

This organisation is Australia’s leading animal protection agency. Representing 40 member groups and more than two million individual supporters, Animals Australia along with its global arm, Animals International, investigates and exposes animal cruelty.

According to the Pet Industry of Australia Association around 450,000 puppies are sold in Australia each year. About 15 per cent of puppies are sold through breeders registered with Australia’s peak companion animal breeding boards.

Another 15 per cent are sold through pet shops, with the vast majority of sales occurring online and totally unregulated.
