In Australia dogs are the most popular and common pet, most likely because of their loyalty, willingness to please and the special affection they demonstrate towards people.

Dogs are intelligent and emotional creatures but they do not have the ability to reign in their emotions by applying logic and reasoning.

It is far easier to prevent behaviour problems, like separation anxiety from developing, than it is to try to fix or eliminate them. Understanding your dog and his/her needs and character will greatly help reduce the incidence of behaviour problems.

In these modern times of higher density living, rapidly expanding cities and semi rural areas becoming suburbia there are very high demands on dogs to conform to society’s expectations. They are required to be friendly to people and other dogs, to not bark excessively, not to jump up on people, not to dig in the garden or pull on the lead when walking, etcetera.
