Four paws is a non-profit organisation that started as a small group of animal activists 30 years ago in Austria. It has grown into an international organisation operating across five continents including Australia.

Although four paws rescues mostly bears from the terrible Chinese and Asian custom of collecting their bile and body parts, they also rescue cats, dogs, foxes, farm animals, horses, donkeys, monkeys, birds and even crocodiles from an industry where they die painfully and slowly for their skins which are used for designer handbags, belts and shoes.

Four Paws has been recently helping the plight of dogs in Indonesia where more than one million stray and pet dogs are stolen and transported throughout the country to supply dog meat restaurants, slaughterhouses and markets. Captured dogs are packed tightly into cages and sacks and their mouths bound shut so they can barely breath.

The journey can last days and may span hundreds of kilometres. Many dogs do not survive the journey, dying from suffoca
