Column: Living with Dogs - HSI HUMANE SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL
HSI is the largest and most effective international charity working for a more humane and sustainable world for animals. It is a leader in saving endangered species and their habitats and has helped reduce cruelty in farming, trade and other industries.

Founded in 1991 in the United States, HSI has expanded activities into central and South America, Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe and Australia.

Currently, it is fighting the Western Australian Government to acknowledge dingos as native wildlife instead of feral pests. Under the government’s current legislation dingos can be trapped, baited, shot, traded, processed and exported.

HSI has also supported and helped SOI in Thailand with its rescue of street dogs and together they work to stop the cruel dog and cat meat markets in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. It is estimated about 30 million dogs a year are destined for the dog meat trade. Many are stolen pets with their collars still on.
