Dogs inhabit the same physical space as humans but they do not experience the world the way we do. Pet dogs are often attributed with human concepts of the world and it is easy to underestimate the huge differences between the senses of us and dogs. To dogs we are our scent.

SCENT: Smell is a dog’s dominate sense, they will use it in preference to all other senses. Odour is the primary means of identifying people, places and other dogs. They start learning how to use their sense of smell before birth. Dogs posses a unique combination of olfactory superiority and trainability, which we humans have made extensive use of throughout history and are still finding new uses for scent identification today. They can detect odours at concentrations of one part per trillion, about a thousand times more sensitive than humans.

While they are tracking or scenting they can continue to inhale the air and scent through their nostrils and expel or exhale at the same time via the slits on the sides of their nostrils. So when
