Column: Musical Notes - TMO'S GREAT START TO 2021
They enjoyed a suite of memorable tunes from classic films, musical theatre productions and online games.
One of the favourites was the theme from Tetris, a tile-matching video game created in1984. This Russian-influenced tune was expertly arranged by Sean Butler, the orchestra’s conductor, and had the audience on the edge of their seats as the tempo increased with each repetition of the melody.
Another new addition to the program this year was Beauty and the Beast from Walt Disney’s classic 1991 animated film of the same name. This gentle ballad was a lovely contrast to some of the more exciting, upbeat numbers, evoking nostalgia for many listeners (and players).
By the end of the show, the audience was calling for an encore, and a lively rendition of Master of the House from Les Miserables fit the bill.
Overall, the concert was a great success, not only in terms of the music but also for the two lucky raffle winners who took home a hamper from Angela’s Pantry and a dinner voucher donated by Pippin Took2 re
