Column: Pastor - A COSMIC WEDDING
Recently I came across a brief description of the church in the middle of the sixteenth century. It said that western Christianity was ‘bewildered’ at that time in its history. The reformation of the church was not clean and tidy.

There were humanistic movements that opposed any continuation of the church and advocated a ‘libertarian’ agenda. The Reformation was answered by the counter-reformation of the Roman Catholic. And the reformation itself took on different national characteristics as well as dividing over disagreements among its leaders regarding a variety of particular doctrines.

They had their problems 500 years ago. But as I thought about the ‘bewildered’ church of the sixteenth century I realised that we are no less, and possibly even more bewildered at the beginning of our new century. If one looks for a united front in the Christian church in the west it is impossible to find.
