Column: Pastor - A LIVING HOPE
And some of us have heard those well-meaning words, ‘don’t give up, there is still hope’. I heard them last week in an artificially constructed context (TV) where it seemed every possible way out had been closed off.
The writers were clever and brought hope’s bright smile out of the blue just in the nick of time. But real life is not so easily scripted. We have temporal hopes fulfilled from time to time; a good job, good health, reasonably good kids etc are some of the things we hope for in life.
Quite often these hopes can be battered around a bit, and you can begin to lose hope. And then if you look at the big picture of life you realise all of these short-term hopes, whether fulfilled or not, do not seem to carry enough weight to get you through to the end of life.
We can be thankful for temporal hopes fulfilled and still long for a greater hope. And that brings us to one aspect of the meaning of Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus Christ: fully divine, fully man. He had a body like mine, like yours, subject to
