Column: Pastor - THE END CAN BE A NEW BEGINNING
There is a devious metanarrative (big story about the meaning of life) permeating our culture.

It is a self-serving, arrogant declaration that there are no big stories about the meaning of life that are true or meaningful anymore. This big story assumes itself to be right and has no need to justify itself. It just proclaims that its version is ‘true’(?).

This metanarrative, which denies that it is a metanarrative, is what has been called postmodernism, a name many are weary of hearing. There is one aspect of this story that I want to comment on here. Most people have a basic need to understand who they are and what their purpose in life is.

This sense of self identity may not press in on us with the same urgency at all times. We are quite capable of keeping busy enough with life to keep those nagging questions at bay. But there are times when life’s circumstances cause us to reflect on our purpose in life.
