Column: Pastor - THERE IS GOOD NEWS
In one of the Apostle Paul’s New Testament letters he writes that he is astonished at how quickly some Christians have turned away from Christ to follow ‘another gospel’, which, he reminds them, is actually no gospel at all.

The word ‘gospel’ means ‘good news’ and in ancient Greek it is the word that gives us ‘evangel’ and ‘evangelism’. In his letter Paul describes this gospel of salvation in phrases like; (Jesus) ‘gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age’, ‘the gospel I preached is not something that man made up’, ‘before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified’, ‘God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.’ (Galatians 1-4)

Paul is seriously concerned that Christians in Galatia (modern Turkey) who have received the good news of salvation by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, are now turning away from that good news. What happened in the Galatian churches still happens today.
