Bridges are required to span a gap between two separated bodies in order to provide a passage between them. Bridges overcome obstacles. Civil engineers need to be visionary, creating what may be described as a masterpiece of modern engineering. Safety often relies on untried designs or unproven materials as engineers put faith in their own knowledge and expertise.
It is this type of measured visionary faith that is required when we embark on the adventure of building relationships. We draw strength from our belief that our commitment to each other will overcome differences and bridge the gap that separates us. If we do not believe in the power and safety of the relationship, obstacles will grow in our minds and undermine the foundation of the bridge which will eventually be swept away.
