This has left many to wonder how this will affect their children in their development and understanding of interpersonal relationships.
The impact of distancing rules has been noted in maternity services also. There are many women who are pregnant who have extended family interstate and so have not had the additional support during the newborn months that they were either expecting, or have had previously. Tighter restrictions to visiting in hospital has meant many women have not been allowed to have their other children visit them in hospital.
Often the visiting rules in hospital have changed quickly with little notice, increasing anxiety. Some women had to birth with staff in face masks. All of these precautions have meant that we have had very low numbers of COVID-19 in our State and throughout the country, and all of these precautions have been necessary and kept us safe.
