I purposefully include core, and awareness of harnessing our core muscles in every class mainly to stabilise lower backs, and to help my students grow a stronger core mid-section. And once you have a strong toned core, every pose in yoga is a joy. In fact, life is a joy. To feel strong, reduce or remove back pain, move well and safely with that toned core – you are living a high-quality life.
Now this particular student is an amazing yogi and brings a discipline and purity to her practice and to class several times a week. She said that there were some core exercises she could do now, which she could never have done 10 years ago. Talk about turning back the clocks of time! What a compliment to a yogic lifestyle.
So what is your core? The terms "core strength" or "core stability" refers to the muscles of your stomach and back and their ability to support your spine and keep your body stable, safe and balanced, which is fundamental in any physical activity.
