As Scenic Rim Regional Council continues the clean-up from the Christmas and New Year storms, it is set to begin the mammoth task of collecting disaster-related vegetation impacting residents at Tamborine and Tamborine Mountain.

Having focused on clearing debris from public spaces and roadways to ensure community safety, Council is grateful for assistance provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) which will provide for the collection of disaster-related vegetation generated by the Christmas storm event impacting homes and access to residential properties in these areas.
The collection, originally scheduled to commence on 29 January, will now begin on Monday 5 February and take place in four areas in coming weeks, weather permitting, and will not include green waste from general yard maintenance, commercial waste or planned clearing work.
Residents are asked to place only disaster-related vegetation on the roadside verge before the collection period begins as each street will be visited only once and disaster vegetation which misses the collection will not be removed by Council as part of this service.
Care should be taken to ensure vegetation left for collection will not block drivers' sight lines or stormwater runoff or pose a hazard to pedestrians.
Only clean disaster-related vegetation will be removed and debris piles including anything other than disaster-related vegetation, such as green waste from yard maintenance or building/commercial or household waste, will be left in place for the resident to dispose of.
The collection areas and timeframes, subject to weather conditions, are:
• Area 1 - Tamborine Mountain - South of Curtis Road and Beacon Road – 7am Monday 5 February 2024 to
5pm 9 February 2024
• Area 2 - Tamborine Mountain - West of Geissmann Road and North of Beacon Road – 7am Monday 12 February 2024 to 5pm 16 February 2024
• Area 3 - Tamborine Mountain North - East of Geissmann Road and Curtis Road – 7am Monday 19 February 2024 to 5pm 23 February 2024, and
Area 4 - Tamborine Village – 7am Monday 26 February 2024 to 5pm 1 March 2024.
As further rain is likely in coming weeks and may result in delays or changes to the collection schedule, updates will be provided on Council's website, scenicrim.qld.gov.au, facebook page and the notice board of the Community Recovery Hub which has been set up next to the Tamborine Mountain Library at 30-32 Main Street.
The Community Recovery Hub is providing those impacted by the severe weather events of the Christmas-New Year period ongoing access to information, support and hardship assistance from a range of recovery agencies.
