FACING FACTS
FACING FACTS
Hi Scenic News readers, welcome back to my health and wellness column. This edition is all about our face health.
Unlike our body, our facial skin is incredibly thin. Admittedly it still has the three layers, they are, however, much thinner. For example, on average our eyelid skin thickness is approximately 0.2mm thick. With this in mind, the creams, lotions and serums we use on our face should be thinner, ingredients should differ, and the strength of our face cream should also differ from that of a body cream.
A face cream and cleanser should be mild, lighter and provide a different support because it’s being applied to the most vulnerable area.
It’s also the one area that’s possibly the most exposed to the elements. And to help our face, we exfoliate to discard those elements from taking up permanent residence in our pores... resulting in bacteria, dehydration, dull complexion and potentially damaging our skin’s barrier.
Below are some suggestions to repair your skin and maintain its ever-changing health and appearance needs:
Cleanse (twice if you wear makeup)
Moisturise twice a day
Exfoliate once a week
Utilise a serum with Vitamin E and Hyaluronic Acid
Use a silk or satin pillowcase
Drink 2 litres of water a day minimum to flush your toxins
If you find dark under-eyes are becoming a consistent problem, try a warm eye masque; this should help the cells under your eye area from clustering together which could be creating the darkness.
And if you flip the scenario and you have puffy under-eyes, it might be from stress, bloating or emotions, pop on a cooling mask. Like any ice pack for example, it supports inflammation reduction.
And I mentioned water earlier. Water alone isn’t a magic cure.
But drinking much more of it will find a clearer complexion, plumper skin, and reduction in lines. For example, I drink on average 3 litres a day. And my “study” lines on my forehead are now improving. This result is a combination of a few efforts. Regular skin care routine, water, fruit, a day and night serum
and no alcohol.
And lastly, you might have seen the satin pillowcase. This is great and a simple and effective way to maintain hydration throughout the night and creates less friction on your skin while you sleep. Especially if you sleep on your stomach or your side.
If you think a skin planner to help keep on top of things might be helpful, feel free to visit our website and get your free downloadable version.
Thanks again for joining me and as always, spread kindness like it’s jam on toast.
