IT'S MAKE OR BREAK
IT'S MAKE OR BREAK
Hello, Scenic News readers!I’m Rebecca from Naturally COS – your local health and wellness friend. If you’ve been reading my columns for a while now, you’ll know that I specialise in organic health and wellness options. Research soothes me and working with industry professionals is my version of icing on a very delicious cake.
And today’s instalment is all about the making and the breaking of hair. I caught up with my favourite sustainable salon owner, Samijo from Edge Hairdressing. You may know her. She’s quite the philanthropist and community supporter. And most especially the genius artist behind many hair styles on Tamborine Mountain.
My research of hair, the follicle, cuticle, strand and scalp and understanding what organic compounds will support those things to function and thrive has served me well. Then I met Samijo. And she is next level when it comes to hair science and nutrition. When I caught up with her recently, I asked her what are the key do’s and don’ts of hair styling.
Hair styling do’s:
·      Use a fabric hair tie.
·      Let hair dry naturally.
·      Gradually increase heat on hair dryer.
·      Change up where you place pins and clips.
·      Regularly wash silk pillowcase.
·      Use claw clips.
Hairstyling don’ts:
·      Tie up wet hair.
·      Use excessive hair products.
·      Pull hair line tightly.
·      DO Avoid chemicals like petroleum jelly, formaldehyde and synthetics
Using a silk pillowcase is incredible because it offers an anti-friction support while you sleep, wash it once a week, and any nasty bacteria buildup won’t affect your hair and scalp. And keep a claw clip handy for happy, healthy, and thriving locks. Different sizes and shapes also support different lengths and styles. What I also learnt was that in salon, the team offers hair diagnostics. So, if you’re having a series of bad hair days, or if nothing you do seems to work, this service may help to understand what’s behind it. From scalp health right the way through to the ends, the diagnosis looks at all options and can determine the best course of action to get your hair troubles behind you.
And on the other hand, if your hair is doing well but you are conscious of the chemicals and considering changing up your routine and the products you use, it may be time to look at products rich in Shea Butter, Aloe Vera and organic botanicals that offer the full benefit and uncompromised by chemicals. It’s also good to remember to keep all products in a sealed container to avoid bacteria creating a home for itself especially in the steamy environments of a shower.
Like all things, your hair will have days when it needs a little more TLC than others: love it and it will love you.
As always, spread kindness like it’s jam on toast.
