MARKING MILESTONES
MARKING MILESTONES
Last weekend, The Manor (formally Bungunyah Manor) marked 140 years since the start of its story as a part of Tamborine Mountain’s long heritage as a place for people to visit and enjoy. I was grateful for the invitation to be a part of marking this milestone, along with many locals and others who travelled to the Mountain for the occasion. Well done to the Drysdale family who in recent years have run The Manor. I believe it is important that as a community, we remember how things began – sometimes a look to the past can lead us in the right direction for the future.
In that vein, I was interested to read that there were two daily bus services from Brisbane to Tamborine Mountain up until 1939 to bring tourists to stay! This certainly is different to the situation we have now, where there are virtually no public transport options available on the Mountain (apart from the subsidised taxi services at various times of the day). There has been a great deal of lobbying done by myself and locals to change this situation and I continue to raise this regularly with Transport & Main Roads. Once again, well done and congratulations to The Manor – the oldest tourism venture on Tamborine Mountain.

GAMBLING COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND
Round 115 of the GCBF is now open, community organisations have until 31 October 2022 to apply for grants of up to $35,000. Changes have been made to the GCBF program and commenced earlier this year. There are now four funding rounds each year, with three of these rounds having funding available up to $35,000 and one super round (GCBF Round 113) with up to $100,000 of funding available. I have provided letters of support for numerous community groups, and together with other grant initiatives, our region has received over 18 million dollars in grant funds for community organisations since I was elected as your representative in 2012. I certainly encourage clubs and community organisations to apply for assistance. Please contact my office for more information or to request a letter of support and visit justice.qld.gov.au

IT’S QUEENSLAND SENIORS MONTH
Seniors Month runs from 1-31 October and this year the theme is: Social Connections.

During the month people of all ages, cultures, and abilities will connect through inclusive events and activities, celebrating the important and essential roles older people play in our communities.

Seniors Month aims to:
- Connect older Queenslanders to inclusive events and activities by producing culturally inclusive, intergenerational or lifestyle events/activities for Queenslanders in their communities.
- Create opportunities for older Queenslanders to continue to participate in activities beyond Queensland Seniors Month.
- Challenge ageist attitudes and reframe the conversation around ageing.
- Enable older Queenslanders to live active and healthy lives with improved physical and mental wellbeing.
- Enhance opportunities for older Queenslanders to continue to learn through community education, lifelong learning, and digital literacy.
