Recently, you may have seen pictures of rainbows being posted on social media or people referring to ‘rainbow babies’ and wondered what they were talking about. A rainbow baby is a baby who is born after the loss of a child, whether that child was a miscarriage, a stillborn baby, or a baby who died soon after birth. When families suffer these losses and go on to have another baby, they may refer to that child as their ‘rainbow baby’. This is acknowledged every year on August 22 on Rainbow Baby Day.
