THE BRONCOS ARE BACK!
THE BRONCOS ARE BACK!
Footy finals time is almost upon us. After a few tough years, it is with great joy that I can say I am looking forward to watching the final month or so of Rugby League this year. Because, finally, the Brisbane Broncos are back! It has been a bit of a poor return in recent seasons for us Broncos fans.
They have been a phenomenally successful side over the years and have only missed the finals seven times in the past 35 years. Three of those times were in the past three seasons, and three years ago they finished dead last. Now, I know if you are a Dragons or Blues supporter, you may just think it is normal to lose, but it’s just not something that us Broncos faithful have been used to.
So, yep, I have been enjoying watching the Broncos bounce back this season and play some good footy. What’s interesting though, is to look at why this year has been different to the previous three years? Without getting too much of my Footy Nerd on, there have been several reasons: they have had a couple of new players to the club that have caused a lot spark and excitement in their attack, and also added depth to cover for when key players have had injuries; some of their rookie players have had another year to mature and are starting to find their feet, and the whole squad has been able to play with a consistency of effort that has been lacking in previous years.
But I think the major thing that has changed for the Broncos is their confidence in each other. It appears that they are of the belief that their teammates are going to do their job and do it well. This allows everyone to focus solely on what they need to do themselves in order to play good footy. Without confidence in each other, football teams struggle to perform well and will generally get poor results.
The same is true of the relationship between your healthcare professional and you. I know from experience that if I am lacking confidence in my healthcare professional, we just do not get the same results together. And the opposite is true. When I have full confidence in the treatment plan and person or persons carrying it out, I usually get fantastic results. This is because achieving great health care outcomes is actually a team effort between a health care provider and their patient.
If you find you are lacking in confidence in your health care professional, a simple fix is to actually spell this out to them and to ask more questions. Honesty is by far the greatest way to build trust between individuals. This gives you both a chance to build trust and move towards having great outcomes.
At Physique, we are constantly trying to approach treatment from a team point of view. A team that not just involves all the staff but has the patient as the central team player. It is imperative, if we want to get good results, that the patient and physio have confidence in each other. The patient must have confidence in the knowledge and expertise of the physiotherapist and follow their advice and treatment plan, and the physio needs to trust that the patient will listen, heed advice, come to treatments as advised and modify activity as recommended.
So if you, like the Broncos, want to start performing at your peak, give us a call at Physique.
We will be sure to repay your confidence in us with great healthcare outcomes.
